stp addatives

been today and got some 5/30 oil and filters etc any how come with a free stp addative does any one still use this product or is it going in bin ?

I have always thought of it as snake oil.
If it did any good I would have thought the car manufacturer would use it or the oil companies would put the magic ingredients in their products
