cant engage any gear
Re: cant engage any gear
I ended up bleeding the slave cylinder - nothing came out for a few seconds and then fluid came out of the bleed nipple. I can also see fluid on the engine mount below the cylinder so it's obviously been leaking.
It now moves the clutch arm when you depress the clutch - still no gear changes though.
My final theory is that it isn't moving the clutch arm far enough. I've got a new slave cylinder off eBay for £16. I'll fit it tomorrow and see what happens.
Just in case I have to admit defeat, I have a quote off a local car shop/garage - £88 for the clutch and £100 to fit it. The garage guy was the only one so far that didn't scream and run when I mentioned ford probe. Says there is another one in town he has worked on.
Oh, ill probably keep the old cylinder and refurbish with a rock auto repair kit - ready for next time! Same for the master cylinder.

Everything is cheap where I live. Car repairs, housing, rent - no one wants to live here! You do have to be more careful with the end result however. You get what you pay for and its a problem in and of itself.

Finally back on the road
Garage where at it from 8am to 6pm - said it was the worst (most difficult) clutch job they had done!

In that case they haven’t worked on a Probe before
I’ve must have done 5 clutch’s my now, normally don’t rush them & do over two days, but that’s with out a lift/workshop equipment etc.
Did on once in one day, but that was working with an experienced engineer. Again not in a workshop
Kit
Re: cant engage any gear
Hence my reply they obviously had never done one before and didn't realise how hard they are to do otherwise the price would have been a lot higher like I said cheap for a clutch change
Re: cant engage any gear
I think they actually got someone in to do it - someone with a European accent. He approved of the car, mentioned that he owned a Ford Cougar so maybe they had to get some 'experience' in? Anyway - the price and the result was pleasing!

Oh - the row I thought came from the modded exhaust on my car - is no longer there! All this time I assumed it was meant to sound like that and now the garage have dis/reassembled the exhaust - its gone all quiet and civilised. My wife had a good laugh at that! I'm meant to know about car related stuff! My son isn't pleased though
