Odd misfire, late 24v

Post by Scooby » Sun Jul 07, 2024 6:02 pm

OK guys. Odd one for you to mull over. Already mentioned it on the FB page but have done some work since then so thought an update on here might work.

Late 24v occasionally 'hiccups'. I can't recreate the problem I can only wait for it to happen. When driving, it feels as if the spark is too early. It's not like it just misses, it really feels like the engine gets retarded.

When at idle, revs drop and then pick up again. It both instances, the orange/red car with key symbol in it lights up then goes out. Sometimes it happens a lot, other times not at all. Happens in the dry, in the wet, hot or cold. Air con on, air con off. My key, the wife's key. Nothing seems to make a difference.

Have replaced fuel filter, plugs, leads and distributor (with brand new one from Germany, not pre-owned or refurbished)

Short of possibly the temic, or maybe the maf (although i replaced that last year), I am stuck.

Any ideas?

Its on the Throttle body theres a water pipe that goes from the EGR Valve to IAC
If you get up and down revs it could be blocked it tends to bounce the revs up and down

Unclipped the small upright one that photo and flushed through with clean water. Seemed to be flowing AOK but car still had the same issue for at least 20 miles afterwards and the next day. Does seem to be intermittent and cannot think what to try next.
