24v timing belt change

Post by Space_1999 » Sun Mar 12, 2023 11:05 am

Greetings from a new Probe owner!

I know nothing about the car, but love it and want to work through its 'issues' to make it drive great.

The most pressing issue is the cam belt. What is the service interval? The last record of a replacement was at 60,000 miles in 2006. I'm currently on 115,000.

What's the best type of cambelt to fit, should I renew the tensioner, water pump, aux belts etc at the same time?

How long does it take to do the job – what sort of money are we talking about for a local garage to do it?

Any help/advice gratefully received.

David

Hi David
every 60,000 or 5 years do the cambelt, pump, pulleys and tensioner as the panels
have to come off to do the job, prices depends on your garage rates ;)
good to do aux belts at the same time as peace of mind

As Kev say, the aux belt have to come off, so might has well to change them,
But make sure the 17mm nut on both pulleys are unlocked before trying the adjust the both aux belts.
We have had some people have managed to snap the power steering bracket due to not undoing the locking nut

Thanks - roughly how many hours of labour are we talking about?

Last time I took one of mine to a garage, the mechanic said don't bring it back, so I haven't and do mine own cambelt changes,
