I may have found the problem. But good news and bad news.
I keep hearing a 'ticking' from the front spark plug area, so I thought maybe a loose plug. Front right ok, but front middle and left and 2 at the rear I can't even get the spark plug socket on the plug, won't connect to the plug. Torch and glasses later reveal that 4 of the HT lead ends have broken down leaving rubber over the spark plugs that I can't get out, so fresh plug leads don't fit on properly and I can't unscrew the plugs.
Order some extra long long nose pliers ?

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be the piece of rubber insert from a spark plug socket had been left on the spark plug and had gone hard, and had been push down the get the ht lead on, we could get a socket over the spark plug, until we removed the rubber insert from my socket then gently tap the socket down over the plug and we managed to removed the plug.
