Re: White smoke on startup
Update. used Cataclean but the smoke got much worse. Stops after about a minute or two. Changed injector rail and noticed one injector blocked up. Started car but still the same. I'm pretty sure its injector related, thinking of changing the inlet manifold but unsure if that would make any difference. Input anyone?

Re: White smoke on startup
no water loss, the oil does'nt have any 'cream' in it. A mechanic told me its sounds like an air induction problem. Changed the air flow meter and checked the filter but no better. anyone know if there are any air valves or something that could break down?

Re: White smoke on startup
Hi all. Long term non prober here, I had both models back in early 2000's and I can categorically state that masses of white smoke on startup of a 16v is due to worn oil control rings. I had nearly 2 years of discrete early morning startups for that very reason, along with many weeks in a garage trying to figure out the problem.
Outcome? New control rings on each piston and problem gone.
btw, these were mine. Pidge and Noddy.
