5/30W is a good choice , apply the same thought to the type/make of oil filter you are using too.
AND don't forget quality of coolant used is equally important to protect engine .
At 1500 miles/yr , should last forever.

Oil should be changed often, it has a shelf life of about two years then it starts to separate and loose its protective value

Castrol GTX or go on price. You get what you pay for with oil.

Semi Synthetic in my 16v and fully synthetic in my 24v. I changed from 5W30 to 10W30 in the 24v because of a bit of tappet rattle and its helped a lot. I don't notice it now. 5W is for very cold climates like Norway, Iceland etc. Not necessary in the UK but it wont do any harm either as its designed to keep the metal apart whilst being very low viscosity.

The 16v (bought new) was 10W30 (as per handbook) all its life (285k)

I buy Mobil as they do one specific for Ford's or Shell. I think. I think the Mobil is 3000.
I can look at the weekend if you remind me.
Used Mobil for I think last 3:oil changes which I do every 2 years even though I do low mileage. No flush.
