Ford Probe battery/alternator problems

Post by KEG » Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:18 pm

Hi
Can someone tell me if the Ford Probe 24V 1996 alternator has a built in rectifier and a regulator? Had a new battery fitted recently but the battery is low going by the battery gauge in the car. Had the battery tested but it’s low voltage. Seems like I have been running off the battery. So thinking that it’s the alternator but that was tested at the time and it was ok. Thanks.

Might take you up on that. How much? And where is it coming from? Thanks.

Put a volt meter across the Terminals if you have one,the reading should be 14./14.5 running
which the alternator will put out,if your alternator is full oil its on the way out. but check
your belt tension first.have you an orange light on the dash

Yes, the rectifier/regulator is built-in.

“Put a volt meter across the Terminals if you have one,the reading should be 14./14.5 running”.

No light comes on on the dash.

The volt meter registers 11.8 only when running.

Is that ' new' battery or ' another battery' ?
And when you tested the alternator voltage , the battery was disconnected with engine running, yes ?
