Can someone tell me; is the24v an interference engine. In other words do the valves occupy the same space as the pistons if the cam belt breaks?

Non interference, belt breaks, put a new one on and go.

If you use a Mazda belt, forget changing at 60k miles, 100k between changes at earliest.

Totally guarantee that it's a non interference engine, after having 2 belts go on two of my probes
Same with the 16v
I had to laugh when my last belt snapped and the RAC man said "well that your engine gone" my words to him was just take me home and I'll have a new belt on tomorrow and the car will be fine, and later that week the car was running again with a new belt and hydraulic adjuster
