Re: heater resistor for 96 probe
I believe the first issue would be that it doesn't fit, the plug would be different, the next, and maybe more important issue is that it causes a problem, because the resistors become too hot and could cause a fire. A bit like putting a larger fuse in a plug than there should be?
PS did you search for heater, as there have been topics on this subject before, it might help.

Re: heater resistor for 96 probe
There 2 types of resisters for the probe, yours been a 1996 it should be the later resister,
Plug 4 in line and a flat resister,
You should also look for a mazda resister, since the probe is mazda (mx6) or even mazda 626 but they have to be the GE model
I manage to get one off ebay, and did post a while ago when to get them, but checking on ebay to can't find them

It's right at the back I believe, you need to get your head in there, you will see the connector and cable rather than the actual resistor card?

Re: heater resistor for 96 probe
Take the panel off under the glove box, then you will find the heater blower up on the left hand side and then you will find the heater resistor in the trunking of the heater system,
(passenger wing side)
When you replace it, make sure that the new or (secondhand resistor) is fixed in the trunking before you try to see if it works or you are likely to blow it, ( it need the air flow to keep it cool)

Re: heater resistor for 96 probe
Heater resistor fault is that the cause of the heater blower not working in some positions? My blower only works at the minimum and maximum speed.
