24V Probe - Complete Starting Fail
Turns over but refuses to fire.
Just to refresh so you've all the information.
Originally I had an idle issue that I thought may be a loose plug. On examining the plugs, I've a problem with the leads whereby the lead suction ends have removed themselves in 4 of the 6 pots and stuck around the plugs.
Anyway, all up and running yesterday, but a very slight miss, a bit like running on 5.5 cylinders. So I started to remove each lead while the car was running, thinking that if one doesn't make much difference on the idling then that'll be the culprit. On removing one of the leads from the plug, the engine did what you'd expect and dipped in power so much that the engine stalled.
Since then it's never even tried to fire after numerous attempts.
While turning over and over and over I can smell unburnt fuel. On turning the engine over while holding a HT over the engine, I get a spark. I've checked all obvious connections, changed the dizzy cap and replaced with a new rotary arm just in case , but no difference.
Have I fried my dizzy ? But I'm getting a spark.
Any thoughts please

Oh No , how many times must I write it.
NEVER, EVER try to run with an open plug lead.
You have just killed the 'dissy' .

Am I right in thinking, you haven’t ‘fried’ the dizzy, because you still have a spark
Simple things first, have you the spark plug leads in the right firing order

All leads in the right order. Still have a spark. Swapped one by one .
Re: 24V Probe - Complete Starting Fail
If you have air/fuel/spark and timing right , it must run.
The spark must be 'strong enough ' though , I think you need to test if that spark is good enough.
The only other possibility is a problem with that 6 castellation plate that whizzes round between the Hall effect sensors in the distributor.
Worth a check.

Re: 24V Probe - Complete Starting Fail
Easy job Paul just get top dead center on number1 plug
use a spanner on the crank bolt to achieve this,(better if the plugs are out)
(long srewdiver) to see the rise and falll
make sure the rotor is pointing to number 1 on the cap
Then the 12mm bolts take out remove Dissy and put the other Dissy in
same way as came out(make note of the dog leg on Dissy)

Re: 24V Probe - Complete Starting Fail
On the 24v dizzy, the drive ‘dog’ on the spindle is offset, so it can only get located in end of the camshaft in one way. So you can’t go wrong when swapping them
