Hello,
Over the winter I’m going to get all 4 wheels refurbed and put new tyres on them when done, is there a general consensus of what’s best?
The car is on standard16” wheels, 1995 24v

Probabaly based on the mileage you are likely to do, I would say anything that suits your budget, because if you are not careful the age of the tyres could become an issue before the tread wears out?

Good point worth considering!
Certainly no more than 2k miles a year I reckon, the car will only be on the road in the summer months and then put back in the garage so not many at all really.

we say that, but I just replaced the wheels that came with the car, shod with no-name Chinese tyres, with the wheels I got from Gavin (twilight-rider) which have Pirellis fitted, there is a marked difference in handling and I'm no pro. I also swapped Evergreens for Toyos on the Saab and again the difference is noticeable from memory an extra £7 per corner.
I'd say get the best you can afford, its the only thing that's keeping you on the road and out of the ditch!

I put Avons on a couple of cars and was not impressed with their grip levels, especially when pulling away I found it to easy to spin the wheels compared to the ones that were on before which were a less well known brand and often a bit worn.

Thank you, I had Pirelli P1's on my TT and they were probably the best tyre I've had but the car certainly went through them!! Steering away from Dunlops... my Jag came with them and they were already perishing around the edges after 3 years!!
Nexen or Kumo seem like a good bet looking online.
