V6 cam belt change
Has anyone had a cam belt changed at a garage recently? 3 independent garages have declined to quote and I’m waiting for the ford and Mazda dealers to respond.
I asked Mazda because I actually own an mx6 not a probe. I’ve posted 3 topics on the mx-6 forum so far but none were answered, I’m hoping you guys can be more helpful.
Also does anyone know where I can download the Ford or Mazda dealers workshop manual for the car? There are pdf files for sale on eBay so they must be around.
Thanks
Kevin

Sorry guys I don’t have a probe (yet ) I’m asking questions here because I get better responses than on the US Mazda forum.

Re: V6 cam belt change
Hi Kevin,
Most people don't bother with garages, they either do it themselves or someone on here will do it.
Where are you based and are you prepared to travel, as someone on here may be able to change it for you for a cheaper price than any garage.

Hi, thanks for replying.
I’m in Kidderminster just west of Birmingham and I could travel to get it done if anyone is interested in helping.
Thanks
Kevin

I have had 2 probes and I have to use garages.I live in Brum so I can recommend one in Redditch that has done mine.I do suggest getting your own parts though. It is still at your own risk as garages do change.ford and mazda will cost you a fortune.

Hi Fuerte,
Please let me know who you have used, I work in south Birmingham so Redditch is a possibility.
Thanks

Re: V6 cam belt change
I used a local independent one-man band to do both mine. He used to be the head mechanic at Fords of Southport "back in the day" so worked on Probes when they first came out. He's not much of a electronic diagnostician, but he's good with the mechanical stuff.
In fact, he did Japha for me yesterday. Cost me £350 with him supplying all the parts for belt and water pump change.
For me it's worth it as it would take me a whole day to do it with all the frustration that involves, plus he does it while I'm at work earning money
Not too far from Brum if you're interested.

Re: V6 cam belt change
Wont let a garage do mine, do them myself now, both 16v`s and 24v`s
and done another 24v for a NE club member,
just have to take your time, and plenty of help at the end of a phone if required.

Re: V6 cam belt change
My biggest problem is a slipped disc and waiting for surgery. That and when I bought it I told my wife i wouldn’t be doing any work on it.
Otherwise I’d be outside now with it in pieces.
