Weird Flappy Noise

Post by Alan8086 » Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:54 pm

Hi - Me again,

This is a lazy call for help as I should really record or video the sound so you can hear it.

When I start my GT engine, 4 times out of 6 it will start up with a 'flappy' noise - almost as if the VRIS valves are out of sync or something? It doesn't sound like mis adjusted tappets - flappy, rather than tappety?

It makes no difference to power, driving etc but its annoying. ruins an otherwise lovely sounding engine. Only present at idle and low rpm, parked up. As soon as you press the gas, its not really noticeable.

I also find if I stop and restart the engine 2 - 3 times, the engine goes back to sounding perfectly normal in all circumstances.

What sounds flappy and not tappety in a 24V engine? Something about VRIS is all I can think of?

Thankyou for any suggestions :)

Think you have answered your own question regards the Flappy sound
your exhaust gasket is flapping about due to a missing bolt

Its ok - most of the words exiting my mouth are tongue in cheek or of a fasicious nature. Describing a car noise as originating from wings is of no surprise if you knew me!

Would be good if thats all it is. Its just odd that it can be made to dissappear if you restart the engine a few times? Unless the starter rocking the engine is moving stuff?

Ahah! perhaps this is the answer - it does seem to get better as the engine warms. Trouble is my journey to work is so short, The engine is warm as I'm turning into the carpark!

Thankyou all who contributed to my ridiculous question!
