Low idle and missfire

Post by Cameron_benn210803 » Tue Jan 14, 2025 8:33 pm

This is my 1997 2.5l I am having a few problems with it and looking for some guidance it’s been of the road for a few years and I’d like to get it back on the road thanks issue is it takes ages to start multiple attempts before it fires then when it eventually does the idle drops very low and if I do not keep the accelerator pressed slightly it will stall also misfires during this these are the things I have done so far

New dizzy cap and rotator
Replace maf sensor from 1995 2.5
Replaced spark plugs
Replaced leads
Oil change
Changed coolant and yes it is full

Has the timing belt been changed or anything adjusted?
Do you know if the TPS has been moved?
If you have only replaced the dizzy cap and rotor then you need to replace the actual dizzy, because you will probably find that the ignition module is breaking down.

Nothing has been adjusted and the tps hasn’t been moved would you recommend to change it anyway? I also have a 1995 will the dizzy go on the 97 straight swap? Or will I have find a new dizzy or get it repaired

1995 & 1997 dizzy’s are different
Do you know that the Maf or Vaf ( I can never remember) is a good working replacement

I took the maf of my 1995 which ran completely fine and put it on the 1997 and it had no change is the tps different on each model because I might try swapping everything over

I don't believe it is, you can check, but I still believe that the dizzy is a good option, it normally is!

Have tried pulling to codes, to see if anything comes up,
My hose after the maf to the tb had a split in it causing me problems with revs, (unmetered air)

coming off the back of Malcolm's reply, have you checked that all the VAC pipes are connected, have you disturbed any of them. Do you have a standard air-box, or have you fitted a cold air intake, have you checked any and all of the pipes other than water pipes?

EVERY Probe owner needs to have a spare , working , distributor .
Fairly certain a new distributor will cure your problem.
