Engine hesitating/misfiring slightly when warmed up
Engine hesitating/misfiring slightly when warmed up
Hi my friend has a 2.5litre v6 ford probe registered 1996. For some time the car has hesitated/ slight misfire when warmed up.Ok when cold.Eventually one day it would not start.Got a new distributor, rotor arm, plug leads and plugs ( the correct ones) but car is still stuttering on acceleration .We have tried to get diagnostic leads that will fit but have had no success to date. Can you advise where we can purchase the correct diagnostic leads that will fit this vehicle.Regards Don

Re: Engine hesitating/misfiring slightly when warmed up
Hi and welcome to UKPOC,
there is no commercially available tester for these cars as they are OBD1, most cars now are OBD11. Which means the only way to check for codes is with a 12v LED and a wire strap. There is a write up within the oracle, however as you can appreciate, we need to make ends meet, so certain areas of the forum are for full paying members only, but at just £10 per year, it's a bargain really (shameless plug )
Have you checked the water level at the left hand cap, which is above the inlet manifold, and normally is just a flat cap, rather than a sprung one. the water when cold should be filled to the brim, the method of filling is to remove both caps, but fill from the left hand one, until the water starts to come out of the right hand one, replace that cap then the left hand one.

Now that you have full membership, you can look at everything in the oracle.

Hi again, i have checked the water level and its ok. You state that i need a 12v led and a wire strap. Can a 12v led be easily obtained. Is it just a lamp? Please explain for me. Regards Don

Hi Don,
Have you read the write up in the oracle link I posted?
Yes it does need to be a 12v led, because you do not want to load the circuits.
You can buy them from eBay or probably Amazon.
If you follow the write up it will show you if you have any codes.
