Ford Probe 1994 2.0

Just out of interest when removing the steering rack why is it necessary to remove the front subframe

The easiest way to remove the steering rack , is to remove the engine :o

But it is possible to remove the rack, with it in place.
Not the easiest job, but I have done it

There is a item in the oracle about removing a steering rack in which it mentions dropping the subframe. Ive looked in the Haynes manual which said to drop the subframe and also in the Chilton's manual which doesn't. All a bit confusing.

I had a garage replace mine on a previous car, but I don't believe that they dropped the subframe
