Won't start..

Post by KBUK » Sat Dec 15, 2018 12:45 am

Hey guys,

Just done the oil change. Started her up, all good. Turned off, rechecked oil, all good. Noticed when running one of the spark plug cables was feeling a bit strange so decided to check it out...

Pulled it off, all looks good. Put it back. Go to start her up again and engine warning light is on, car will crank but refuses to come to life. After stopping cranking I can feel the engine shake a few more rotations.

Tried to reseat spark plug wire, tried to reset the engine warning light by removing battery for 5 minutes. Tried to jump start. Nothing.

Any wisdom?

No but ,this is a Probe !
The ONE thing you must NEVER do on this ignition system is disconnect a plug while running.
If the energy that makes the spark cannot discharge across the gap it has to go somewhere.
Guess where ?
Back into the 'transistorised system ' , 1000's of volts where it should be 5V.

CPS plug??

What is one of them?? Had the AA out and they couldn't get it running. Guy said, it has spark, air and fuel. There is no reason that it shouldn't be running. Just refuses to start :/

You can check the 'spark' .
Take a spark plug out.
With the plug lead attached to it, clamp the base of the plug to a metal surface on the engine ( mole grips will do ).
Wait until it gets dark , then get someone to 'start' the engine while you watch the gap on the plug.

Looking from the front, the CPS plug is to the left of the engine, near the top, between the cam covers, it is normally a grey plug (someone might have a picture). Disconnect the plug, clean inside, and plug back together again and give it a go

Might be wrong, but I have a feeling on UK Probes the check engine light is just for the alternator. So if it's lit, just means the alternator isn't charging.

This seems like an easy solution, I just pray it works. Thanks for the heads up - fingers crossed it isn't more serious than that.

Will keep you guys posted :|
