Service Time!
Service Time!
Hi Everybody!
I was visiting a lovely chap yesterday who goes by the name of Adam, I'm sure most of you know him!
While geeking out over our Ford Probes it came to my attention that my oil level was just below the "low" level on the dipstick. So today, I've got a few additions to the list of things to do to the car:
- Oil change
- Oil filter change
- Fuel filter change
- Air filter change
- Cabin filter change (does it even have one?)
- Spark plug change
Couple of questions... any recommendations for oils, filters etc..Any brands notably better than others or recommended by you guys?
Is there anything else that should be done that isn't on the list? (apart from the leaky gaskets and surviving immobiliser )

Re: Service Time!
I've never found a cabin filter, but I'm ready to be instructed if I'm wrong.
You'll probably get a number of comments about oil, so I'll throw my tuppence in first.
I tend to go for mid-range semi-synthetic oils as I tend to do an oil change every 5000 miles or so. Filters aren't drastically expensive, and nor is oil when you compare it to the cost of an engine change!
Plug: Check what you have first. If you have iridium, then I'd probably leave them in rather than replacing with 'standard' ones.

Re: Service Time!
Good shout on the plugs! I'll be pulling them out tonight and checking the health of them so hopefully I pull out 6 pristine iridium ones but I don't consider myself to be that lucky!
Got any brand you prefer for your semi-synthetics?
I've seen this Castrol Magnatec 5w30 Semi Synthetic that is meant to stick to components so when you start up you're already oiled up. But i wonder if there is any real difference between that and "bob's 5w30 Semi Synthetic magic lube for motors"?

Re: Service Time!
I always use 5w/30 Fully Synthetic Oil in my 24v`s, and I change every 3000 mile or yearly,
Brakes should be checked while doing a service, especially the rears, (Strip every year and grease up the Slider pin)
and agree check plugs before changing them

Re: Service Time!
Hmmm, personally ,I would stay away from oils that contain 'magic' ingredients.
As others have said, good quality semi-synthetic ,5W-30 perfect ( never worry about lots of thin oil sloshing about ), change often, never fill more than 5mm above full mark.

Re: Service Time!
I guess some silicone grease is the way to go for the slider pins?
I'm assuming that Durex's Lubricant would not be ideal in the long run?
