V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
ok
sorry i imagine its got electrical leads to it????
so that gives me a choice of three....
can someone point me in the right direction.....
one at the front (radiator side) is the gearbox oil level sensor?????
then there are two at the back:
one has two wires and sits very low down on a horizontal plane,
the other is a fast easy connector, higher up next to the engine mount...
which one is the speed sensor, and are they difficult to get out......

Re: V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
Almost certain it is the one up near the engine mount.
It may be worth going to the Rockauto site and looking at the pictures of the VSS (speed) sensor.
Essentially a 'tube' ( the spiral worm gear) attached to a flange.
Looks easy to remove off the car but apparently doesn't want to move !

The one at the front, is the reverse light switch, near the gear box oil filler/level plug.
It must have a the copper washer fitted , when put back, as this acts as a spacer, if it's missing, you can't select reverse gear
As we found out a few weeks ago , while working on Fluffy's car
Plus, you will lose some oil out the gearbox.

Three electrical devices listed on the transaxle (gearbox).
VSS 9peed sensor
Reversing switch
PNP Park/ Neutral switch

Re: V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
Thanks to Wayne for the gearbox.
Off the car, the VSS sensor just pulled out, no problem.
This is the direct opposite of what all the 'scrap yards' told me, " impossible to get out", etc.
Has anyone else ever had to change one, or is it just my high mileage that revealed the problem ?

Re: V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
Actually they are a pain to get out I know becouse I have taken out a few in my time and it's either 50/50 they come out easily and in one piece or they fall apart completely when you pull them out,,,,so sounds like you were one of the lucky 50% and got one out in one piece..
Re: V6 removal of the speed sensor on the gear box?
Good to know, thanks.
I can imagine trying to get it out on the car is more difficult.
Is access only possible from underneath the car , or can it be done from the top ?

I've seen it done from the top, (after taking the air box off the car)
