Checked ABS error codes now car wont start!

Post by MikeyG » Tue Mar 19, 2019 11:05 pm

Hey guys,
pulling my hair out. Everything was running fine apart from the ABS light was on. Followed the advice for getting the ABS error codes and now the car wont start. The engine turns over but nothing electronic seems to happen. Checked the battery - thats fine. A few other points:

- We reset the ECU whilst getting the codes (Disconnected the negative terminal of the battery and held down the brake pedal for 5 minutes.)
- We've checked all the fuses and they are all fine.
- I'm pretty sure we shorted the right boxes - TBS and GND - but is it possible we bridged the wrong ones. Would this cause serious damage, and how could we find out if this is what we've done?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated as I'm not even sure where to start here. The immobiliser acts normal - Slow blinking until the key fob is pressed, then a solid blink and then its out.

Not sure what is causing problem but having had 4 probes my first thing would be to bypass the immobiliser. It is renowned for causing problems.I am surprised there are still probes out there with the key fob immobilisers still fitted.
The tech guys will help more.

I'd try disconnecting the battery again for five minutes. I've had problems in the past with immobiliser playing up after having the battery off.

Other things to try, is clean the crank sensor connection.

Any other thoughts? If the immobiliser packs in, what actually happens? Nothing? Or does it still allow the engine to turn, just not start?

which probe 16v or 24v ?
what year.?
do you have a fob you have to press before you turn the key ?

if the immobiliser fails you can still have the engine turning over but wont fire (or the other thing that happens if knocks out the Dizzy)

most of the answers can be found in the oracle but you have to be a full member to access it

You wrote about possibly shorting out the wrong connections in the diagnostic box.
It would blow a fuse, IF you are lucky, otherwise it could be the ECU , not so lucky.

Its a 1995 2.0l 16v.

The immobiliser worked before - It flashed red, pressed the fob, went solid red then off. Then the car would start like a dream. Now it just turns, sparks, you can smell the petrol, but something just isnt playing ball.

2 thing you need,
1 bypass your immobiliser
2 a new dizzy (early one)
