Re: Rear o2 sensor
Not done a early one, but I would have thought it would be same as a late one,
I use a socket designed to remove o2 sensor, and get from below and then struggle to unclip it (small hands) required

I managed with a spanner. But had to get the car on ramps, and go from underneath. Can't remember if I removed the crossmember for better access.

Re: Rear o2 sensor
I know great store is made of these units working BUT mine were never changed ( despite being U/S ) for 19 years.
Fuel consumption was generally around 38mpg , more if driven carefully.
The ECU provides an optimum input in the event of 'no input' so no need to get too worried about those codes.

Re: Rear o2 sensor
Early and late are in different places. Later ones can be accessed easily from the wheel arch but early ones are right at the back.
I already have the necessary socket but can't get a ratchet on it. I'll try removing the cross member.

Re: Rear o2 sensor
I use a 22mm ring spanner, I think it’s 22mm. It is cut in half, disconnect the plug, working from the top, place ring spanner on O2 sensor, then I have a piece of pipe flattened at one end, place this end against the end of the spanner and tap with a hammer. 5 minute job.
