Does anyone know which internal part usually fails when our dizzies go 'bad'

(early 16v)
I am talking about the known issue related to the imobilizer / overheating etc.
I have just been testing the coils on a couple of 'bad' dizzies I have kept and the readings all seem OK so I am intrigued which part has actually gone bad

I did buy the 'big transistor' on the coil pack separately , intending to replace the same item on a known faulty distributor.
Just to see if it works again with a new 'big transistor'.
Events overtook me, so I will never know.
PM me your details and you can have it. Worth a try, then we'll all know.
It is the ONLY item that is visible, all the rest are encapsulated and impossible to identify.

No worries - thank you for the kind offer though

Btw - where did you source the new transistor and how can I tell which one to buy for the 16V - any ideas?
Cheers

The 'big transistor' on the 24V coil pack has its code no. etched on it.
I bought the same one for £9.95 , via ebay /China. Two week delay but arrived ok.
I imagine the 16V will have a similar item, maybe even the same one ?
If you find the number , let me know and I will check what I have here.

Give me a couple of weeks, I'll test & sort out a Dizzy for you.
Early or late (S1 or S3) ??

I had 7 failures over the 285k milage of M939FDF which was a 16v with the Bosch immobiliser and I used to buy a kit through Mazda of what looked like the hall effect sensor and a built in coil. About £60 from memory. The last failure I had, I was told the kit was no longer available but I'm not sure that info was trustworthy. What the situation is now, I dont know but I've seen coils for sale on ebay that look suspiciously like it.

Sorry guys for the late reply ....for some reason I am not getting email notifications when anyone responds to my posts...
Thanks JRH - I will get back to you if I manage to get a number
Thanks also KIT but I don't actually need a dizzy - I was just thinking of trying to sort out some of the old failed ones I have lying around . Like I said, the actual coils all seem to be OK so I wanted to know what part actually fails. JRH is saying possibly the transistor, but I have also read somewhere that the 'igniter' can fail too - not sure if this is replaceable.
