Erratic Idle 16v
Erratic Idle 16v
Hi All
Got my new probe from Duncan and all ok but noticed couple of little bits that i am hoping someone can help with.
When the car is warm firstly the heating in the car isn't very warm at all regardless of the settings on the heater panel.
Secondly when warm if i stop and put the car in neutral the idle bounces between 800 and 1250 a few times before going to a base idle of 1800.
Any ideas? Its not been used for a while.
Thanks in advance

Re: Erratic Idle 16v
I think cpt is bang on with the IAC. It was an ongoing problem with my 16V
I needed to strip and clean it every 2 years, but interestingly, you also have poor heater output. That's quite probably an air lock in the matrix and whats interesting about that is that the IAC also needs a coolant flow through it to work properly! Regarding the heater, disconnect both hoses, connect a garden hose to one (preferably the return), flush through till you get a clear, full stream, reconnect, bleed the rad in the usual way and that should fix the heater.
The IAC is delicate with loose springs and spools but its easy enough. Put a towel under it before you start to catch any parts that pop out unexpectedly. Clean the parts with carbon solvent and check the air and water gallery's are clear.
Good luck.

Re: Erratic Idle 16v
I have the same problem as you at the moment( without the heating issues), still trying to work out what it is though. got a MAF on order at the moment so hoping that sorts it.
Re: Erratic Idle 16v
Thanks for all the suggestions. Ill have a look this weekend. Going to flush the cooling system completely and out new anti freeze etc in and will give the IAC a clean. Fingers crossed it sorts the problems because other than those its a great car! Nice to be driving a probe everyday again
Re: Erratic Idle 16v
Well it appears my erratic idle has fixed itself.....
FItted a brand new battery yesterday as the other one was struggling to start the car most of the time. It now idles at 650 rpm when warm and the revs dont bounce all over the place etc. Could be a complete fluke but ill still clean the IAC the weekend and change the coolant.

When your next here, bring the old battery we could pop it on the teal, see if has the same effect
