Thanks for all help so far , just been to garage to see what story is with my car , diagnosis is it is over fuelling , problem is they don’t seem to know why , relatively young mechanic and owner so thinking I might have to get car into somewhere else .

Seems more like an ignition problem.
No spark , or at the wrong time will do this.

Has the timing been checked? does it stop if you remove one of the plug leads, because it's only firing on 2? Any chance that you can change the distributor?

Thanks folks , Micron .. i am based in Scotland

Taking car to another garage as getting no where at the moment , guy hasn’t looked at it in nearly 3 weeks .
She had a new distributor in October 2020 , will them to check it out .

Check the dissy and connections also connections to the cpu

I would still try another Dizzy, as they can be very temperamental

Update - over fuelling issue was incorrect , I am now on the lookout for a replacement 2.0 16V engine as mine has several issues and a rebuild would cost way to much .
Car is 1997 model , would anyone have an engine and costs please ? Gutted tbh but it is what is it , thanks for all the suggestions and help so far .

Do you know what is wrong with your engine, or just that the garage said it had a lot of issues?
