MX6 Battery Drain

Post by Incognito » Thu Jun 30, 2022 7:35 pm

I only generally start the MX6 up on a weekend and when I try to the battery is always flat. The battery is good, tried 2 to be sure.
Its not a charging issue and there are no lights in or out including the boot left on. Negative disconnected for a week and then reconnected , she fires straight up, so it's something draining the battery when left idle.
Where do I start to look ?
Thank you.

You probably have to start by removing a selection of fuses, but make a note, then see if any of those affect the battery. It might be trial and error and rather time consuming, but think about some obvious suspects, like lights or maybe the radio?

You could try a meter on amps in line with the battery, then see what it’s drawing, then methodology remove each fuse in turn

I had a similar issue with the rat if it was left for a week or two. I just used to disconnect the negative terminal as CPT suggests.

No idea if this will help - it didn't drain my battery.... I do let her run for a bit every day. (1995 Probe 24v)

I had left the parcel shelf out and noticed one night the boot light was glowing a bit. Opened the boot and it came on brightly, but still glowed a bit when boot closed.

With voltmeter- boot open 12.6 volts, boot closed 1.5 volts to the light. I just removed the bulb!

Worth a try :-)

Or, the ‘under bonnet light’, if you have on an MX6
