Steering locking issue
Steering locking issue
Just noticed that the central locking is not working on my 1996 24v Probe. After taking the key out of the ignition, I turn the wheel to lock it but it does not lock. What could the problem be? Anyone know. Is this a MOT failure?

Re: Central locking issue
Does it operate when you have the door open and then you press the lock button on the door panel,
Problem could be your the relay behind the passenger rear panel.

Re: Central locking issue
These are two different systems
The steering lock is mechanical system in the steering column/ignition cylinder. May be the spring sticking.
The central door locking is a separate system, operated on the door key or button on the door car.
As, Mojo, said the relay this next to the ABS module

Re: Central locking issue
My thinking is that it could be a broken detent the catch part that makes sure that the steering wheel locks into place. Or a broken cog. Or a broken actuator although there does not seem to be any symptoms of this. If any of these are the problem are the parts available to fix it?
Re: Central locking issue
Yes sorry it’s a steering lock problem not a central locking problem. The steering wheel will not lock.

Re: Central locking issue
Ok I have changed the title of your topic.
When you take the key out does the barrel stay depressed in, meaning like Kit said the spring is sticking?
