1995 24v - car idle hunting between 1000-1500 revs

Hi experts,
The car has been running great but on the drive home it was hunting / not idling at a steady level.
Moving between 1000-1500 revs.
Not hard the car long - what should I be looking for / doing to fix.

Hi,
have you checked the water levels? Remove the flat cap ( not the sprung one) on the engine, and check that the water is to the brim

Thanks @Micron the water in the cap to the left of the engine is full to the brim. The water under the cap near the front on the right near the battery is up to the top of the pipe coming in on the lower right had side of the tank. Both of them are sprung caps.
Assume those levels are right. Any other suggestions? Thank you

Really check that ALL the tiny flexible pipes around the MAF unit are properly connected.

The cap on the engine shouldn’t be a sprung cap, but a flat cap

I’m using a spring cap for both, it doesn’t matter as there is now where for the pressure relief to go anyway. I had a similar problem and just needed to adjust idle air control screw. Should be instructions on the Oracle

Why do you think that there is no where for the pressure relief to go?
They were designed to have a no. Pressure cap on the engine, a pressure one by the radiator, with a pipe to the expansion tank?

After breaking down once due to the sprung cap failing I’ve always used two since, means I have a spare handy if it ever happens again 🤷🏼‍♂️
