Today's project...

Post by Andy W » Sun Jun 03, 2018 5:12 pm

....was to find out why my tow bar electrics weren't working properly.

Checked all my soldered joints as I'm usually the weak link in any mechanical/electronic work I've done. They all looked good, no breaks. Checked the 7 pin plug with a circuit tester, yes it was getting electric. Must be the trailer. Checked the connector, all seemed good there too but not working.

Off to screwfix, the cheapest place I could find for a trailer board (£17.99) - never been to Screwfix before, just like Argos for tradesmen.

Brought the board home, pushed it in and it works. Took it out again, tried the trailer, nothing. Tried the board again, nothing ](*,)

Probably not the board or the trailer then. Must be the 7pin socket on the tow bar. All nuts seized. Two came off with just a little work, the third now lives in the bin thanks the the dremel with a mini cutting disk :P

Took it apart, looks ok then noticed that once it was back together that it moves a bit inside the socket holder #-o So problem potentially solved. Stop it moving and we should get a good contact. Solution was to use one of the rubber covers on the headlamp lifting knob, I had a spare, chopped the top off it and it holds the socket in place. It works!

Now I have a spare trailer board. just out of the box. :-" #-o

Just relieved it all works Trev. Too much camping gear to fit in one car and three bodies. Good news means I can bring the fire pit this year.
