Not into these modern cars

Post by fuerte » Fri May 19, 2017 5:40 pm

Got into a opel something beginning with m... today.Couldnt find the handbrake.Turns out its a tiny button and you have to put foot on brake to use it.I can so see me forgetting to put it on.At least I always park in gear. There are that many buttons and displays its confusing.Found petrol and cd display and not worrying about the rest.Oh and speed gauge.Better find that tommorow.Forgot that with all the rest of the disco lights!,,,

It makes doing handbrake turns a lot trickier!
Should be in the garage working instead of being here

Opel meriva.
Never thought of the handbrake turn thing.Planning on going off road tommorow. That should be interesting cos usually when you going up a really steep hill sometimes you have to pull the handbrake on suddenly.Think I might have to do a bit of playing around with it.It has 6 gears plus reverse thats a first for me.Not used to something so posh used to old bangers I can throw around.Although big not much clearance on bumper so can see me takinng that off on the rocks.whoops.

I had a Meriva as a courtesy car a few years back. Hated it immensely. It was my first experience of an electronic hand brake too. I believe it does have a hill mode whereby it senses if you start rolling backwards and automatically applies it
Not sure though.

Had a Mokka as a hire car last month. Drove nicely but, less efficient than the probe!

It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.

I thought you were joking when you said a mocca.Never heard of it.Driven tractors before but not sure I see the attraction of 6 gears in a car.
Anyway will see how I get on today.

When you get used to 6 gears and an electric handbrake, then you get in a car with 5 gears and an actual handbrake, it does get confusing, as in constantly aiming for 6th gear, and trying to pull away at junctions with the handbrake pulled up, thinking that it will automatically release with the clutch.

Its like some people who swap between probes and other cars and put the windscreen wipers on instead of the indicators.A long gone ex did it and it killed me laughing every time.
Anyway didnt do too bad today. It didnt like a sand coverered track I went on.Got through it with wing and a prayer.Found out how to turn all fans and air con off and now using windows for air con.Yesterday car was blue but it is now orange sand colour.Even found its way into boot.Bet engine not pretty either.
