engine cut out

Post by peterb1126 » Thu Aug 04, 2022 7:45 pm

HI...would appreciate some advice on how to get my 1995 ford probe 2.0 running properly ! The car keeps cutting out resulting in Breakdown being called once again to visit various garages ... so far the following has been done --- new battery.. ignition barrel check /switch relay changed ... new starter motor ..new distributor...radiator changed /thermostat.. water pump checked ... belts tightened...oil /plugs /filter and service ... last week the car was actually given 12 months M.O.T. despite the fact that they thought it could be running better! Took it out for a longer run this week and within 5 miles i was on a dual carriageway travelling at about 60mph and the engine cut out ... wouldnt start ... 15 mins later did start as the Breakdown truck arrived again ! Any ideas / suggestions would be welcome as i cannot trust taking this car any distance it seems ... My other ford probe ( fortunately own 2 ) has twice the mileage but runs fine !! HELP ! Thanks Peterb 1126

Have you tried swapping the vaf unit over from your other Probe

It could also be the new dizzy, that is what was happening to mine, once it had warmed up, the car stopped.

Sounds like classic dizzy, or moby to me!
MAF might make it run like shit, but cut out altogether like that…? :geek:

You should ALWAYS have a known working spare distributor anyway , so has to be a first try.
Plus, if the immobiliser hasn't been modified , that has to be sorted too.
