I think I have about 5 or 6 of the bloody things, but I can’t lay my hands on them until tomorrow at the earliest

Check that the tensioner is working ,or all the work will be for nothing.

Water pump bolts are 19-25 N-M
or 14-18 LB-FT

Thanks alot for the information, I've taken the tensioner of it moves about 10-15mm? I gather that is correct

The pin on the hydraulic shouldnt move in or out sounds like its knackered you usally need a vice
to push the pin in if it any good and you want to reuse it

Yes I had to put it in a vice to slowly compress it, I can't push by hand

And lastly , everyone needs to know this.
IF you over-tighten the screws that hold the tensioner in place and it snaps off in the engine block , I have the only piece of kit IN THE WORLD ,
that will allow you to remove the piece left in the hole.........without removing the engine.

Finally after 5 attempts I have the correct water pump, I've fitted that, I'm about to fit the new cambelt tensioner but I've found a 12mm spring washer?? Does this go behind the tensioner, ?? I've bought a haynes manual but it hadn't arrived yet and I was hoping to fit tonight? Cheers Mark

Are these photos of the Ford book any use? The is no mention of a washer on here.
