Post by mmm24v » Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:22 am

Need to rack your brains for an idiot's guide please
My power steering is iffy,I'm hoping its just the belt
Squeal from area, belt slows up when wheel turned
What's the simpleton way to change it please?

If it does turn out to be the pump, garage it is
Many thanks

Tensioner wants replacing with your spare and then the Belt wants checking before you fit it.
Sure its only held with 2 bolts but can't remember if the Cam Belt cover has to come off or not to remove it. Don't think it does but i'm getting on and my memory is not what it was

Undo the 17mm Nut in the middle of the Roller, remove the roller, remove the belt, remove the 2 bolts holding the bracket in place.
Refit in reverse, check the belt for cracks etc before refitting it.

Normally, the power steering fluid should last 'forever' and only need topping up if it 'evaporates' through overheating.
However, we have a problem.
All Probes with high (ish) miles have had the power steering cooling pipe exposed to the worst of everything on the road. Made of steel , that pipe
is getting very rusty and very thin . The first leak, can evaporate as it leaks, without showing as drops on the floor.
Worth a very close look.
