Water leaks in cabin...

Post by Mondeo55 » Tue Dec 04, 2018 9:20 pm

My Probe is sitting patiently on my drive awaiting its turn in my garage. I noticed today while checking it over there's rain water getting in in two places....

I have a pool of it on the plastic side shelf at the rear next to the parcel shelf and it also appears to be trailing down from the rear light fixture and pooling in the section at the side of the boot floor.

Anyone experienced any of these?

No, but almost certain it will be associated with sunroof drainage problem.

Also check the seals on the bonded in rear windows haven't failed. It's not a hard job to reattach them, just cutting the old sealant and getting the window out in one piece is a bit nerve-wracking.

Thanks both.....

Ref sunroof drainage: does the run off pipe travel down that rear pillar?

Ref window: I thought that was a probable cause. Was going to run a bead of seal down each side as that seems to be the waters best chance at entry

I did that for a while, but in the end, I had to do the full window out. It does a better job, to be honest.

Also - check your car is fitted with the gutters that run down the side of the rear hatch, they can be taken off and forgotten about, you'd definitely end up with water in the hatch area.

I don't fancy tackling the rear window ... I'll have a screen specialist do it if its at fault.

The side gutters are the removable rubber strips between glass and hatch that can be removed?

Side gutters are present and I tact.

Washer jet.....good shout mike! Thank you.

In all this rain though, it leaked less than my SportKa and Cougar's boots! 😂
