It shouldn’t look like this !!

When a new lower ball joint on the wishbone, moves, as the splines are worn :o
Image
Not going anywhere, as it’s held by the pinch bolt, but this will rub on the wishbone :(

Solution, replace the wishbone for a new one,

Will was job One

Job Two, found the outer CV boot had a split in.
This was changed, without removing the driveshaft :o or using a spit boot.

Job Three, changed the flexi Brake pipe.
Taking advice, Dick Dastardly to “unscrew the flexi pipe from the solid metal pipe, not the other way round, or your risk damaging the metal pipe”.
Well it does work, thank you Mike ;)

Was that an original wishbone , or a replacement ?
I found the rubber boots split on two replacement wishbones after a years use (16,000miles) which wrecked the ball-joint of course.
So, I always fitted a thin stainless washer over the boot so that the gap of the clamp area couldn't tear the boot as you turned the steering lock-to- lock.
Never had a failure after that.

A new lower ball joint was pressed into an old wishbone, by CPT.
The ‘fit’ on the splines, wasn’t as strong as it should have been
So with use, there was movement.

Put a weld on the joint & replace the rubber boot, & good to be used again ;)

QH now do a ball joint with a circlip on top to stop this happening, much better than the press in version.
