Tips for fitting rear view mirror

Post by fuerte » Thu Mar 05, 2020 4:57 pm

I fitted one before but the glue seeped and while I was cleaning it up it slipped so sligtly off correct postion.
I am putting off doing the job as I need to be in the mood.
Last time I think I used eyeliner and maybe tape on outside if window to mark positiion
Taped mirror to window until it set 24 hours.
Does it matter if I don't clean off execess glue?
Using loctite and mesh kit.
Done it before so no reason why I cannot do it again but just keep finding excuses to put it off.

Your mirror should have a small metal part that sticks to the glass, the last time I fitted one, I used a rear view mirror sticky pad, probably from Halfords, stuck the small metal part to the glass, left it for a day, then just slid the mirror on, simples

That might be down to the type of pad or glue,

Do you remove the clip from the mirror before fitting it?

Last time I didn't remove the clip but I taped mirror on for 24 hours on to take the weight.I think I may have put too much glue on which is why it slipped.
I have now figured out how to remove the clip though.
It is just such a fiddly job.I was going to do it today but I am on medication for a COPD flare up which is making me shaky so I think I will leave it until I finish the medication next week.
Tempted to get a window fitter out.I have rang one and it is not that expensive.
Thanks
