Speedometer/Cruise control problem

Post by jrh » Sun Apr 22, 2018 10:27 am

The freak one-off problem ,where the speedo suddenly dropped to zero while traveling at 60mph a month ago, has
now become a regular occurence.
At the same time, the cruise control will drop out if engaged too and cannot be re-engaged until the speedo
comes to life again.
Stop the car, cool down, everything works again, until.....etc, etc.
Ideas anyone ?

Of the top of my head says could it be the speed sensor playing up and is about to fail altogether?,

Looked at the circuit diagram and think you are right.
The speed sensor feeds it's pulses into the speedo and cruise control box ,in parallel.
Anyone, please pm me if you have a spare for sale.

Breakers yards curiously empty !
Last resort , new item.
Rockauto have an Intermotor SC327 which looks like it fits , can anyone confirm this ?
And how 'reliable' they (RA) are ?
PS have one but I suspect, in reality, they go through Rockauto on receipt of an order and we all know where that ends up.
I have e-mailed Intermotor UK but don't hold many hopes.

Thanks for that information.
I have e-mailed Intermotor UK but don't hold out much hope. Not showing as available in their catalogue !
Even the one Rockauto show for the Probe is nothing like 'ours'.
Nearest picture is Mazda MX6 2.5L

My local scrapyard has one BUT they say they cannot get it out without breaking it !
It is only held in with a 10mm screw, just how hard are they to remove ?
Has anyone done this before ?

Not a easy job, 10mm plus a lug holding it in, last time I saw one been remove, it was hammer man and had to break it to get it out, which if its shot it doesn't matter, but if it for a spare, well care must be taken
