I’ve got a new timing belt for my 16v, 135 teeth, but it’s too long and won’t tension up, anybody had this problem?

Normally, you have to ‘fight, to get it on !!!

Compare it with the old one :?:

I’ve had to put my old one back on and that tensions up ok
Although I don’t like the tensioner set up😐
I’m wondering if there was a year change and there was a smaller belt, just remembered my old belt has Mazda on it but I didn’t count teeth

That’s correct, it’s an Mazda FS engine in the 16v Probe ;)
Look at an old belt in the garage, that was marked 135, So was an old ‘Gates’ box, I’ve go to show the lay out of the pulleys & which way the belt goes.

I have 6 belts for the 16v (3 Gates and 3 other makes) all 135 so it should fit ????

Hi, well I’ve been back to car this morning and the old cam belt
I’ve got fitted is a Mazda 133 toothed belt part number
FP01 12 205A 9A- 133YU25 powergrip, this is very strange,
Water pump, tensioner, Idler pulley all fit and are same size as what come off, but somethings different 🤔

Is it the original engine in car ??
Could a previous owner swapped out the engine for a 1.8 626 Mazda engine :?:

Hi kit, well was looking into that, but I think water pumps are different, was thinking maybe cyl head was changed, the engine number on the log book is 895998, don’t know how to cross reference this number as yet, but gonna see my parts guy to see if he can, would you know where the engine number would be stamped on the engine so I can further check?
Thanks
Andy
