Have you tried to ‘pull the codes’, & see if anything shows up :?:

It burst into life again today! Left it to tick over and it randomly cut out after around 1.5min. Struggled to restart but did eventually catch. Held it at 1500rpm for 1 min and then it behaved (apart from it's horrible tapping when warm).

I think it needs a good service, looking around it, I think its previous owner ran it on a shoe string
That's sounds familiar!

I've had a "start - wont start" fault twice. First was my 94 16v which had dry joints in the Bosch immobiliser. Second was my present 97 24v that cut out on the motorway at 70, then went another 5 miles, starting, running for a while then cutting out before eventually dying in the Gloucester services. When the RAC man came and rescued me he had a spark so we suspected keys, immobiliser etc. It was the distributor! Even though there was a spark! My 16v had regular distributor failures every 30k or so, so I always suspect the distributor for everything, including tyre wear and worn track rod ends. Usually the problem is the distributor!!!

Its strangely starting OK now... The distributor is around 2 years old so possibly time for new. 🤔.

Re: Bosh Immobiliser- Ford Probe

Post by geoff shaw » Wed Jul 17, 2019 1:37 pm

I found the instructions on how to by pass the Bosh immobiliser on my Ford Probe. One of the three methods described says "make up three wires and insert into the stated pin numbers". Is this done into the plug with or without the immobiliser connected to the plug. I have done it into the plug only but the car just turns over.
