Centre exhaust section

Post by mr moo » Tue Jan 10, 2023 3:49 pm

After a seller cancelled my order for the middle section of the exhaust, stating that it wouldn't fit my car, even though it states 24v 1997 etc., and all of them having very loose information on what will fit what, I'm asking for advice on obtaining the correct system. I have a 440mm catalyst, am I right in thinking like all 2.5 probes ...

Any part numbers, places to buy a budget one or even a good condition used centre section for a 1997 24v with a 440mm cat would be gratefully received

My one hasn't rotted but was a pants pattern part that hung too low and kissed speed bumps until a hole wore through. I want to avoid another poorly fitting example
Thanks, Neil

My understanding was that the different length of cat was down to the headers that you had, early or late, as your car is a 1997, then that would be late.
I don't believe that the actual exhaust is any different?

that said if I'm wrong, someone correct me

Ive had this issue a few times, I believe the 2.0 has a 400mm cat and the 2.5 has 440mm

Wrong :!:
I’ll only the 16v that has two sizes of CATs
400mm early 16vcars
440mm late 16v cars, remember the front pipe flange is also different on the 16v & 24v

So what will fit my 24v if they say there are different fitments for a 24v?

‘They don’t know what that are talking about’
Or should I say ‘they display screen’

To my knowledge, there is only one size of OME 24v center section
This short than the 16v by either 210mm or 170mm
( depending on the size of cat on the 16v)
The 24v is a big bore than the 16v.

Follow me so far.

Now early 24v front pipes, don’t have O2 sensor in the down pipes. This is because they have ‘Pre -CATs in the headers, & the O2 sensor is before these.
These are no longer available
Q - JRH & his ‘jig’. If he still has it

Late 24v cars don’t have Pre CATs , so the O2 sensor is in the down pipe of the front pipe.

Back box on the 24v has a larger bore pipe, & twin Crome tail pipes. The 16v has a single oval tail pipe
16v & 24v are interchangeable, as the hanger on the body & rear joining flange are in the same position.

More knowledge here than Kiw-fit

Thanks kit, what I thought, though I want to sort the abs issue first before spending money on exhaust and tyres
