Air Bag warning - flashes 4 then 5

Post by colinrush » Sat Aug 06, 2022 2:15 pm

:!: Hi,
Looking for help. I have an air bag warning light. It flashes 4, then 5. I have taken the glove box out and cleaned the two blue plugs to the right and the larger blue plug to the left. I have also pulled the air bag from the steering wheel and cleaned the connectors there. Still have the fault. Based in Kent and really stuck as limited knowledge on Probes and cannot get it through an MOT with a flashing light. Car was bought as a project but the light has only just come on since coming back from being resprayed. Any help or advice appreciated.

Codes say… 45 -- front crash sensor, centre, incorrectly mounted -- wiring, loose mounting bracket, poor earth connection through mounting bracket, front crash sensor

Am I looking in the right place?

Regards

Colin,
Have you read the post in the Oracle, as that is pointing towards a front crash sensor or associated wiring?

It’s behind the front bumper

Ah that makes sense. Bumper was off when resprayed. Are there any tutorials that show how to check etc?

There are 3 sensors behind the front bumper :o

Only the one in the middle is really visible

If it’s only become apparent since the bumper has been off, try disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds, put your foot on the brake pedal, reconnect and see what happens

Hi Colin,as the bumper was taken off for the respray check the bolts that hold the sensors
on as there maybe a bad earth due to excess paint

Will try the reset but am not optimistic as I’ve had the battery disconnected for a long time already - just didn’t hit the brake pedal to discharge. More likely I will have to work out how to take the bumper off and find where the sensors are and there earth point. I think a bad earth due to overspray is most likely so fingers crossed.
That’s Sunday sorted!

I did a quick write up on how to take the bumper off, in another topic.
If you search my posts you might find it ;)
