Scuttle Panel - Paint or Replace

Post by TrevorH83 » Wed Aug 03, 2022 7:06 pm

Hello,

The front scuttle panel is quite faded and was going look to respray it black, I’ll do the wiper arms at the same time too.

Has anyone else sprayed the scuttle panel or is better to just replace it? If so are easy to get hold of and swap out?

Regards

Trevor

There all starting to look tatty.
Some people have polished them with Peanut Butter, of all things
Of course the soft rubber lip, & the hard plastic lip expands at different rates, & starts to lift.

Have a spare here, special offer £10. , delivered tomorrow ;)
Then I can have another look at your car

PM me Post code & time & I’ll be there

Peanut butter!! I’ve heard it all now!!

I can’t get up to the car tomorrow as we are off on holiday Friday so tying things up at work but that would be good to do when I’m back if that’s ok?

The other thing I need to sort is a spare key pronto, one key works everything but the other key unlocks the car but won’t run it, just fires up then cuts out. Reading up it sounds like it’s the wrong chip in it for the car? Can the key be re programmed or should I just get another couple of keys from the original cut / chipped at timpsons?

Cheers

Key cutter on Pitsea Market, on a Wednesday, is half the price of Timsons.
Look like you need to have the key ‘reprogrammed’

Ok, give me a suitable date, my work is based in Braintree, but being in Telecom could end up working anywhere in the UK

If it an aftermarket key you can probably have the chip replaced rather than a whole new key.

I use autoglm plastic regenerator on the scuttle panel. (Its like a green slime) , put it on and I normal leave it for 24hrs, then buff it and the scuttle panel comes up like new, but I've got to say all but two of my probe live under car covers so the weather doesn't effect them

As for you faulty key, it will just nereprogramming, or a new chip, I use Timpsons

Trev,
Is your second key an actual chipped key? If it’s not chipped it will allow the car to start but as you say will make it stop again.
