Battery tray

Post by paulp » Thu May 19, 2022 8:25 am

Following on from the fact we've established my bonnet is sticking up due to the battery, i have proceeded to remove the battery which i think is the correct one ( 075 ) , please see pic. First thing i'd ask is is it the correct tray, its black plastic ( see pic ) & 2 out of the 3 bolts that hold it in place have completely corroded ( as you can see ) so has anybody any experience of getting these out ?, i might be able to get some mole grips on them, but might have to drill them out, & presuming i can get them out do i remember Kit saying you can lower the tray ?, any advice very much appreciated, thanks, Paul

Nop, not a ‘flat’ top battery, so the bonnet will stick up , unless you modify the battery tray

Again that’s normal, the OME tray collects water.

First try, driving on an ‘8’ sided socket to get them out.

Failing that, use a small hole cutter, just bigger than the size of the flange of the bolt. To cut the plastic, then lift out the tray .
After lowering the bracket, & skimming the bottom of the tray. You can use a ‘penny’ washer & pre-drill a hole & use a new ‘self tapping screw’

Hope this is useful

This was my first 'mod' to the dear old Probe , just so that a standard -075 battery would fit without the terminal problem.
Basically , you make a flat platform out of aluminium plate to replace the plastic tray.
This drops the battery enough to prevent problems.
I sent the detailed drawing to Paul Player , then of the FPOC , to distribute to members.
Of course , it was lost to posterity.

I love this forum, you guys are so helpful !, so will this Numax AMO58L battery fit properly ?, if so it looks like i can get one from Tayna Batteries, i'd sooner go down that route if possible.

Look at the difference of the top between the 075 & 058, you will see that the 058 isn’t’ flat across the whole top, just the bit in the middle, this is why it will fit.

But yes, perfect battery 8-)
