Hi guys, ( 97 V6 ) this is something i thought i've smelt a couple of times, but then sometimes not, however went over to stamford tonight ( approx 10 miles ) & on the way back there was a definite strong smell of hot oil in the cabin, not a pleasant smell at all !, i couldn't see any smoke behind so presume the engine is not burning it & it runs as sweet as a nut, had a look under the bonnet & there was nothing evident so any ideas would be most welcome ?

It'll be more than likely the rear rocker cover gasket gone. Mines been the same .....for like 13 years

Gaskets available on ebay or via your local motor factor. Remember , as you'll get told its a Mondeo engine  , its a mazda klde. I've an MX6 number plate if you need that to order parts.
Not a job for the faint hearted but well within the ability of a competent mechanic.

Are you talking Stamford in Rutland? If so I have a guy who did mine in a day, £58 for parts and £150 labour. We are near Sleaford if you are interested, Paul would rather breathe oil fumes 😉

The IM has to come of, to remove the rear cam cover.
Don’t forget to use gasket sealer, & don’t tighten down too much, follow the spec.

The front cam cover is more straightforward
