this may help you find the CPS Plug
A star you are mate! I'll head down to the garage shortly and give it a try. Fingers crossed, I didn't want to have to pay the festive Christmas repair bill :)

Once you have found it disconnected it and clean it (WD40 or give a good blow) then reconnected it and give it a go

Then do that spark plug check if it does not start.
You/we, need to know if that man was 'right' about the spark.
There should not have been one if that CPS plug was ok !!

Tried fumbling around with the CPS, no avail. Didn't have any WD40 to clean the contacts so I've left with the mechanic to see if he cant get it up and running. There is definitely a spark on the cables

With regards to the alternator, it could be the case but if it has battery shouldn't the engine start up anyway?

There is a fair amount of oil on the alternator but it is pretty much new so hopefully that hasn't packed in yet.

Spark plugs all look good. Maybe a bit weak at the back. Guy from the RAC inspected them then heated up with a blow torch.

when you say "Tried fumbling around with the CPS plug",
did you actually take it apart (disconnect and reconnect ) ??????

No, I literally could not get it off as it was flapping around all over the place. Didn't want to risk damaging the cables there so i've told the mechanic to do it. Hopefully, he will get chance to look at it today. I've passed over your advice so fingers crossed. That being said, it is sparking so as jhr said
"There should not have been one if that CPS plug was ok !!" ??? Is this relevant ?

Mechanic is going to replace spark plugs, failing that it will be a new crank position sensor. Just want I need before Christmas.....

I take it these are fairly easy to replace? He is away from tomorrow so will leave my car outside the garage, need to get it sorted ASAP
