Help ! Finally got the speed sensor and got the car on the mechanics ramp . Disaster strikes. Whilst removing the old sensor, it has sheared off and is now stuck in the gearbox! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, to say but the gear box might to come out to get better access.

Not the first time it’s snapped in position :(

I presume it is flush with gearbox now ?
Is there anything sticking up to grab hold of ?
Do you have a spare , ready to go in ?

Can I ask was the Speedo and cruise not working before you changed the sensor or just cruise?

Like the distributor these items just 'fail' for no good reason.
On age rather than mileage covered , which is really weird.
They don't have a lot to do , just go round , produce 'pulses' , that's it.
