Starter motor

Post by Tott61 » Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:55 pm

Ford Probe 2.0 16 v 1994

Can you help with a problem with the starter motor.

When I turn it over to start there is a clunking sound but after a number of attempts it turns over and starts.

Could it be a earthing problem

Take the starter motor off the car & ‘bench test’ it.

As removing a starter motor from a 16v is a ‘bit of a pain’.

See if things improve, by running an extra Earth cable, from the Earth bar, by the battery to a clean bolt on the engine

From the Neg terminal of the battery, a wire run’s to a metal bar, that has a couple it M6 tapped holes in it.
‘Lug off’ a suitable size cable, connect it to this Earth bar, & run it to the engine block.
This may improve your starter motor operation
