24v gear box removal - in car
Started a clutch change on the Blue 24v.
Normal issues, sized hub nuts etc, over came them.
But I was thinking, can you leave the intermission shaft in place getting at the bearing bracket, behind the bends of the front pipe, looks a right pain
Or does the front pipe got to come off

Well, the answer is YES
You can remove & replace the gearbox, without removing the interment shaft.
The gearbox went on reasonable easy, to be honest. Little bit of thought& planning, an extra pair of hands
It alined up, both shafts first time
That was the good bit.
The rear engine Mount failed to line up, & we ran out of time to finish the job
The gearbox to rear mount bracket, caused problems, - just couldn’t remove in the car. So the engine Mount, needed to come off, this reviled a split engine Mount , another job for the coming weeks, but as a ‘stop gap’, I’ve filled the whole engine Mount with mastic, to make it solid. Just the same as putting in the ‘up-grade’ inserts.

Well, at last all back together, off the stands, wheels on,
& DRIVABLE
Elland 57, drove it around the block, it’s a different car
On the plus side, the Fuel Filler got changed, the gearbox oil was changed & the battery lowered, so the bonnet doesn’t stick up anymore

Well done , there was a great write-up on how to do this on the old FPOC site .
I have a hard copy, if someone can put it into 'our' site.

Hi John,
if you can get it to me somehow, I will see what I can do with it.
