Couple of issues

Post by mojo98 » Fri Mar 19, 2021 3:44 pm

Clutch problem, fired up the Lazer, after bleeding the brakes a clutch yesterday, but still had a issue, so this morning bled the clutch again, and seems OK, drove the car out off the garage tent, seemed ok, left it stood for couple of hours (washed the car) then went to put back in the tent but struggled to get any gears
It's had a new clutch master cylinder fitted last year.
So any pointers

2nd issue went to fit the USA plastic infills, but no headlights, (wouldn't lift up) had to manually lift up the headlights, tried them several times but no joy, and when you switch them off I get a noise coming from the drivers headlight, and no driving lamps either when I tried them,. The noise stops when you use the indicator stork, or switching the headlights on (but nothing moves) had to pull the retra fuse, to stop the noise.
I did disconnect the driving lamps and indicator to removed the bumper, but not the headights

As for lights, switch drives relay, relay feeds motors.
If the relay is working then I would suspect broken wire or poor earth somewhere.
Clutch ?
You must have had a problem before , new master cylinder fitted , job for Janice in the morning I think while you watch what is happening !

Right need all of you to put on your thinking caps,
Have change to clutch slave and made some adjustments to the clutch pedal
Start the car, into 1st gear clutch seems OK,
Changed the headlight relay in main fuse box (last week) but still no headlight popping up
BUT today while the engine was running I tried the headlights by turning the switch on the stork, and the engine cuts out
So switched off the lights and restarted the engine, turned the side light on OK but then turned the headlights on but engine again cut out and no lights.
Decided to change the clock spring, air bag and steering wheel removed, changed the clock spring,
But again started the engine and tried to turn the light on and again the engine cut out
When I try the indicators, drivers side OK, but the passenger side problems, flashing fast and main beam blue light come on the dash. Tools down and tea for another think and a cuppa tea

So any idea's would be grateful accepted

Malcolm,
Are you 100% sure that the headlight relay is the correct one?
Is it just one or both lights that will not raise?
If it's only one, is it the passenger side that doesn't rise?

I feel that you can rule out the stalks and clock spring
Is this on the car that you took the engine out of, if it is, is it possible that some cabling got trapped, causing a short - reading the bit about the indicator points towards a short?
Have you noticed if the battery is loosing much power if you leave it for a couple of days, although it appears that the short only comes in to play when you operate something.
Can you disconnect the headlights (removed the relay), then try the indicators again to see what happens and maybe vice-versa
It's going to be a situation of elimination and halving the problem where you can.

Thanks Trevor
Yes it's the same car that a took the engine out.
I'll try the things you have suggested in the next couple of days
And its both headlights that won't move, plus the battery is fully charged

Again thanks

Malcolm if you have a meter, you could take a battery voltage reading before doing anything, then take another once you turn on the lights or indicator to see if there is any significant changes, pointing towards a short?

Have you trapped or damage a wire in taking the engine out :?:
