I am in the process of removing the engine & gearbox from my breaker, but with the least amount of work.

My question is, are drive shafts hollow, could I just cut through them with a disc cutter to save time?

I'm not saving the anything associated with the drive lugs, shocks etc, so it doesn't matter that the drive shaft stay in the car

Yes I do, I have had enough now, plus they are not that great and something tells me that the drive shafts will not come out that easy

If I split the inner joint, do I need to be able to pull the hub away from the car?

You will need to release the two bolts from the shock/hub joint, them pull the hub forward. This is enough to get the inner joint out of the cup. - after you have removed the internal cir clip, from the grove in the cup.
